#MaeMeGirls Abroad!

Our girls have had a busy summer! 2 of our #MaeMeGirls ventured overseas; Madison to Rome and Hannah to Prague. How exciting, right!? While they were away, both explored the local bridal and fashion scene and sent us these amazing photos. Fabric Heaven! #Inspiration Rome: While in Rome, Madison stumbled upon a very special fabric store. Luckily the owner, Pierlorenzo Bassetti Tessuti, was at his shop and more than willing to chat about the history of his business. Apparently, his family has been making textiles for decades, and some of his main clientele include Fendi, Dolce and Gabanna, and Valentino! WOW! He also explained that most bridal gowns in Italy are couture, but that he has a friend who makes dresses for American accounts- like us! He also shared that he was busy preparing for an upcoming fashion week, in which they would have a show INSIDE of the Trevi Fountain! So cool! Prague: Meanwhile, Hannah was taking in all of the sights of Prague. She stumbled upon many bridal boutiques. Here are some couture bridal gowns that are currently trending in The Czech Republic! Fashion is universal: lace, metallics, and illusion! We have several gowns in store that are very similar to these! Could you see you and your squad pulling off this look? And the back view We are excited to share their experiences abroad with you, but we are ready for them to come home! Missing our girls! Wedding Dress Colors

Let me start by saying, I’m a big fan of the non-traditional wedding gown. But, I also find myself grabbing for the kleenex when a bride finds her perfect gown and its traditional with a capital ‘T’. There’s definitely been a movement in bridal trends toward colors that fall outside of the traditional ivory pallet(like, gold, champagne, cafe, silver, alabaster). Don’t get me wrong, ivory is still very popular (and probably always will be), but more and more brides are wanting something different. Most wedding gowns come in a few different color options (usually to accommodate different skin tones and tastes). Wedding gowns are ivory, not white, because the ivory color compliments most skin tones better then white. We, as bridal stylists, find ourselves detailing the difference between “white” and “ivory” colored gowns. This conversation always leads to us walking the customer over to the rack of dresses that are stark white (and reserved mostly for graduations, cotillion, and Quinceañeras) to show them the difference. You’re ivory gown will look white to everyone else. I promise. The dress on the left below is white and the one on the right is ivory. Anyway, in recent years, celebrities and real brides alike have chosen shades that aren’t the traditional ivory and I am all over it. Our boutique owner, Melissa, went to the Chicago Bridal Market last month. She says that there were more golds and silvers than the last market. I excitedly asked about blues (my personal favorite), but she didn’t see as much of that as I had hoped. If you are a bride exploring your non-traditional options, bridesmaid dresses do come in a...
